OBSERVING SYSTEMS

Observing systems come in various types, for various purposes. The World Meteorological Organisation , WMO, works with a categorization largely based on technology. As we are nowadays dealing with a lot of different applications of the observations, we have added a number of these. Different suppliers generally have their own specialization.

Different kinds of meteorological observing systems:

Automatic weather stations for use by private individuals
Meteorological systems for general meteorological networks
Meteorological systems for flood warning
Meteorological systems for avalanche warning
Meteorological systems for early storm warning
Meteorological systems for lightning detection
Meteorological systems for use on airports
Meteorological systems for use in harbors
Meteorological systems for hydro power dam monitoring
Meteorological systems for railroad condition monitoring
Meteorological systems for wind farm monitoring
Meteorological systems for solar energy efficiency monitoring
Meteorological systems for Emergency Response (HAZMAT)
Meteorological systems for air pollution monitoring
Meteorological systems for use on aircraft
Meteorological systems for boundary layer research
Meteorological systems for road observation
Meteorological systems for supplying tourist information
Meteorological systems for hydrology/ water management
Meteorological systems for general scientific use
Meteorological systems for military use
Meteorological systems for marine observations
Meteorological systems for fire fighting
Meteorological systems for agricultural use
Radar measurements
Microwave measurements
Satellite observations
Rocket measurements in the stratosphere and mesosphere
Balloon techniques
Systems for greenhouse climate monitoring
Systems for building climate control
Systems for indoor climate measurement

Quality assurance and calibration Section

All systems need software, so there is one special section on software for data acquisition, data processing and quality assurance.
